Healing Circle Modalities & Therapists

Shiatsu & Chinese Cupping by Alyne Tsuyuki

The Japanese word shiatsu means finger pressure: shi — "finger," atsu — "pressure". In shiatsu, the fingers, thumbs, elbows, knees, and feet are all used to stimulate or sedate the energy flowing through the body to promote health and healing. According to Asian medicine, our energy, or ki, moves along specific pathways (meridians) around the body. These meridians relate to our internal physical organs and our emotional, psychological, and spiritual state. The connecting point of the organs and functions in the body is the meridian system.

Chinese cupping - the Chinese therapy for reducing knots, helps better blood circulation, as well as relaxation.

CranioSacral Therapy by Heather Stillman

Heather started massage school in Austin, TX in the spring of 1999. After becoming a registered and licensed massage therapist in the state of Texas, she worked on members of the University of Texas Football team - several of the players she worked on currently play in the NFL. She is a member of the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) and has more than 700 hours of studies, which include the following modalities of massage and bodywork: Swedish, Sports, Structural/Deep tissue (myofascial release), Shiatsu, Zero Balancing, and Cranial Sacral Therapy (CST).

Cranial Sacral Therapy (CST) is a light therapeutic touch (approximately the weight of a nickel) performed with the intent to non-invasively alleviate myriad pain, dysfunction and illness. Several areas this therapy addresses include: stress and tension related issues, migraines, headaches, chronic neck and back pain, TMJ, and chronic fatigue. The therapist begins the initial session by listening to the cranial sacral system on the entire body, noting any restrictions and imbalances. After evaluating the system, very delicate pressure, using manual techniques, is used to release those problem areas, relieving undue pressure on the brain and spinal cord. The overall benefits of CST is to enhance general health, improve resistance to disease, improve brain and spinal cord functions, and reduce accumulated stress.
